Max Holloway tem planos de ganhar o título leve do UFC se ele conseguir vencer Dustin Poirier no UFC 318.
A luta será a terceira parcela, com Poirier vencendo nas duas ocasiões. Esta é a última luta de Poirier, pois ele procura ganhar o cinto BMF de Holloway para terminar sua carreira com uma nota positiva em sua cidade natal, Nova Orleans. Max entra na luta com uma derrota nocaute contra Ilia Topuria em sua última luta, enquanto perdeu o cinto de penas. No entanto, ele agora está de volta à sua classe de peso natural, pois tem ambições de título mundial em sua mente se superar o diamante.
“Eu tenho a oportunidade de ser sua luta de aposentadoria. Eu sei que ele está tentando ir ao pôr do sol … ele pode fazer isso, mas pode ser um pouco triste porque quero ir lá e levantar minha mão. I still have title (contention) in my mind, and a couple of weeks before us, there’s a title fight at 155 and I got history with both men. At the end of the day, I go out there, I do my thing, I make a statement, I get a statement win, who’s to say your boy is not fighting for (the lightweight) undisputed title at the end of the year?,” Holloway disse
